Thoroughly seasoned oak

We only use thoroughly seasoned oak and, wherever possible, this is also "quarter sawn oak" which means the tree is cut like a Victoria sponge cake rather than though the full width of the trunk. This gives better figuring to the grain, as well as ensuring the wood does not expand or contract in modern, centrally heated homes or old cottages.

All items are made by hand within our workshop by an individual cabinetmaker. Dovetails are cut by hand to give strength to the fronts and backs of drawers. Surfaces are planed and scraped by hand: no sanding machines are used. Carving is done by hand. All items are sanded, stained and polished by hand then "signed" with Nigel Griffiths signature.

Our exclusive traditional range includes the wooden hinges on sideboards and the oak "eyebrow" handles available on drawers. Our unique range also exclusively has carving which cuts out the background, not only of doors and drawers, but also of the frame, to leave the carving proud of its surroundings and flowing over the entire surface of the furniture.

The finished colour can be one of a variety of light and dark shades and our chairs can be upholstered in leather or a customer's own choice of material. With seven styles of refectory table, five styles of round or oval dining table and eight different types of chair as standard, and all available in different sizes and finishes, whether you want something whose design has been appreciated for half a century or you prefer something tailored to your specific requirements, it is easy to create something truly personal.
