Our workshop

Made of local limestone with walls two feet thick, the Nigel Griffiths Fine Handmade Oak Furniture building is white in appearance like the walls enclosing the fields around it.

It was built as a farmers' co-operative to make stilton cheese and is on a cross roads to enable as many farmers as possible, easy access to it.

In the second half of the 20th century the cheese making ceased and it was used as part of the local quarrying industry, until 1982, when we purchased it from a local estate and moved our handmade oak furniture business there.

One end of the building was designed as the cheese factory manager's house/office and it is that part which is now the three showrooms. The longer part of the building is the workshops where customers can see our craftsmen hand making our unique solid oak furniture and talk to them about their orders.
